North Wales Police are still following up after an incident when the Ewloe petrol station was robbed in Holywell Road, Flintshire. The criminals targeted the site about 1850 BST on Monday, May 30. The incident was high risk for little reward as only a minor amount of money was taken. Four people have been swiftly arrested after the raid. A second man has been arrested after money was stolen from a guard outside a branch of Barclays Bank in Machynlleth, Powys. The 26-year-old was arrested on suspicion of jointly committing robbery last Thursday, May 19, 2011. Dyfed-Powys Police thanked members of the local community for their help. Police said they are continuing to look for a third man in connection with the incident, who is described as white and in his 20s.
Gwent Police are appealing for help after copper thefts caused thousands of pounds worth of damage and cut phone services in Newport when 80 metres of cable was stolen in Tredegar Park. A Gwent Police spokeswoman confirmed the cable was stolen early on Wednesday, May 4, from the junction box in Morgan Way, Tredegar Park. "There have been a number of incidents involving criminal damage and attempted theft of cable in the Imperial Way and Duffryn Drive area," she added.
Spending on hospitality at four Welsh universities – Cardiff, Glamorgan, Swansea and Newport – went under the spotlight using the Freedom of Information Act. It was found that nearly £6.4 million was spent over a three-year period. Cardiff University increased spending from £1,170,785 in the 2007 academic year to £1,571,839 in the 2009 academic year, with a total bill of £4,241,159 for three years. A Cardiff University spokeswoman said the figures “are budgetary headline figures and do not provide a breakdown of spend.”
A fire at an industrial estate in Milford Haven raged so intensely throughout the night that nearby residents had to be evacuated from their homes. Fire crews were called to Dyfed Cleaning Service on St Peter’s Road at around 10.50pm yesterday (Wednesday, April 13), and two crews were still required to be in attendance this morning. When the blaze was at its height about 40 firefighters from stations in Pembrokeshire tackled the incident.
A man has absconded from Prescoed jail. Police are attempting to track 27 year old Leon Passmore who has failed to return to the open prison near Usk. Gwent Police say he is dangerous, so people should call the force instead of approaching him. Passmore, who was due to return to the prison on Monday (April 4), was convicted and sentenced at Swansea Crown Court in April 2009.
